Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How much does counseling cost?
A: Counseling costs may vary by the type of counselor you see, what you are being seen for, and where you choose to get your care. As a nonprofit, Mosaic is able to significantly reduce the cost for most of its clients – while maintaining a high quality of care. In some situations, we may also be able to establish temporary payment arrangements to meet your family's temporary need.
Q: How do I choose a therapist?
A: Choosing a therapist can feel overwhelming. This is why at Mosaic, a team of trained client services representatives listen carefully to your therapy goals and personal preferences and matches you with a therapist that best fits you. Common things that impact choosing a therapist include the flexibility in the dates and times you are available, whether or not you want in person or video-based counseling, the therapeutic modality best suited for your therapy goals, and whether or not your insurance covers the provider you want. At Mosaic, we take additional steps to ensure that we honor your individual beliefs and practices.
Q: How often should I attend a therapy session?
A: The decision to begin therapy is often life-changing, and we want to meet people where they are. Most people will find that it takes a few sessions to build trust and gain an understanding of the goals of therapy. During this process, you and your therapist will work together to establish a routine for therapy that meets your goals. Most clients may come once or twice per week and others may come once or twice per month.
Q: Is individual therapy or group therapy better?
A: It is important to understand that there is rarely a single solution to anything. You and your therapist will work together to establish a variety of activities that are designed to meet your goals. These activities might include both individual and group sessions, but may also include weekly outside activities, studying material, journaling, physical activity and many more. Each of these tools offers specific and unique benefits.
Q: What do you do at a therapy session?
A: What happens in a therapy session varies widely depending on your willingness to participate in the process, the therapist’s professional training, the type of therapy used in your sessions, and the pace of therapy that you and your therapist agree to. Mosaic offers a variety of evidence-based and innovative treatments that include cognitive behavioral therapy, traditional psychotherapy, eye-movement desensitization and reprocessing, emotional freedom technique, exposure and response prevention therapy, play therapy and many more.
